Malaysia Airports joins RM4.9bil race for Stansted deal

LONDON: Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd (MAHB) has entered the running for Stansted airport, as the owners of London's third hub attempt to stoke up competition in the £1bil (RM4.92bil) bidding process.

The Sunday Telegraph understands that an approach has been made by the group, which owns 39 airports in its domestic heartland, including its flagship KL International Airport.

It is known that Stansted's owner, Heathrow the airports group formerly known as BAA has sought out new bidders in an attempt to boost the likely price.

Although there were four existing bidders for Stansted in the first round, Heathrow has been seeking a “stalking horse” suitor to revive the auction process.

The original four are Manchester Airport Group (MAG) which is backed by Australia's Industry Funds Management, plus financial investors TPG, Macquarie and HRL Morrison.

Macquarie and HRL Morrison are in the market trying to raise the necessary funds for their respective bids, while it is understood that TPG believes it is being sidelined in the process.

Sources close to the auction indicated that MAG had emerged as the favoured bidder, but that Heathrow wanted to secure a strong rival trade bidder to bolster the eventual price.

MAHB is 40.4%-owned by Khazanah Nasional, Malaysia's state investment company.

In addition to its own airports, it also owns a 20% stake in Istanbul airport and a 10% holding in Indira Gandhi International airport in New Delhi as well as stakes in airports in Hyderabad and the Maldives.

The Stansted sales process, the result of Heathrow losing a three-year fight with UK competition regulators, is being managed by Deutsche Bank and ING. A sale is expected in the first half of 2013.

A spokesman for Heathrow declined to comment. A spokesman for MAHB did not return calls requesting a comment. Sunday Telegraph

Business Times understands that the deal to take over Stansted Airport could cost as much as RM5 billion.

Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd, the country's biggest airport operator, is believed to be making a bid to gain control of UK's Stansted Airport.

Stansted Airport is the fourth busiest airport in the UK, and is considered a hub for a number of major European low-cost carriers.

It is also the core hub for Ryanair, the Irish low-cost carrier, which flies to over 100 destinations from the airport.

Business Times understands that the deal to take over Stansted Airport could cost as much as RM5 billion.

MAHB officials could not be reached for comments, and neither did its managing director Tan Sri Bashir Ahmad respond to SMS queries from Business Times, as at press time.

Meanwhile, reports from the UK press also seems to suggest that MAHB is on the verge of joining the bidding process for the airport which is owned by Heathrow Airport Holdings Ltd (HAHL).

UK's Sunday Telegraph reported that MAHB had made an approach for the airport.

The UK Competition Commission ruled that HAHL must sell Stansted. The sale, which is being managed by Deutsche Bank and ING, is expected to be concluded by the first quarter of 2013.

If indeed MAHB had thrown its hat in the ring to gain control of Stansted Airport, it will be the second time in a year that a Malaysian group has targetted to acquire a landmark London asset.

Earlier in the year, Sime Darby Bhd and SP Setia Bhd outbid Russian billionaire Roman Abramovich to acquire London's Battersea Power Station for STG400 million (RM1.9 billion).

According to property consultant CBRE Group, up to the first seven months of the year, Malaysians were the top buyers of London properties, spending more than STG1.3 billion (RM6.3 billion), beating the US into second place among overseas investors.

Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd's success in managing airports may just boost its chances of winning the bid to buy UK's Stansted Airport although valuations for the airport are on the high side.       

OSK Research Sdn Bhd said the UK media has reported that the MAHB was the latest suitor to join the bid to buy Stansted Airport for an estimated one billion pounds (RM4.9 billion).       

Other bidders are Manchester Airport Group (MAG), which is backed by Australia’s Industry Funds Management, and financial investors TPG, Macquarie and HRL Morrison, it said in a research note today.       

Stansted Airport is being forced sold by airport group shareholder BAA after losing a three-year battle with UK competition regulators, barring ownership of two airports, as BAA also owns Heathrow Airport.       

Should MAHB wins the bid, OSK said, the group might have to raise debt since its current cash pile was not sufficient to finance the one billion pounds acquisition.

However, given its current 54 per cent net gearing, there is some room for additional leverage should its funding needs to grow.

Other possible sources of funding that the group can tap on are its Dividend Reinvestment Scheme, which can raise some RM190-RM200 million, assuming a 90 per cent take-up.       

OSK has maintained its RM8 fair valuation on MAHB, with its "buy" call on the airport operator also maintained. MAHB is currently trading at RM5.44. "We continue to like KLIA2’s prospects," it added. -- Bernama

SHARES CONTINUE TO FALL: Analysts not too impressed with MAHB’s reported bid for Stansted


MALAYSIA Airports Holdings Bhd's (MAHB) shares slid a day after it emerged that the airport operator may join the fray in making an estimated RM5 billion bid for the UK's Stansted Airport, a move some aviation analysts are not too keen on.

The shares fell by 2.6 per cent, or 14 sen, to RM5.34 in its fifth consecutive day of decline. The broader FBM KLCI index eased 0.4 per cent in comparison, to 1,607.88.

Stansted is the fourth busiest airport in the UK and a hub for a number of major European low-cost carriers like Ryanair, which dominates 70 per cent of passenger traffic.

MAHB has so far declined comment on news reports of its supposed interest in Stansted.

An analyst from Maybank Investment Bank voiced concern that MAHB, which is currently focused on completing its new low-cost carrier terminal in Sepang, klia2, that is due to open by May 1 next year, would have too much on its plate if it joined the race for Stansted.

He pointed out that once klia2 is ready, MAHB would need to spend time ensuring smooth commencement of operations and solving any teething issue.

"Klia2 is MAHB's single largest investment to date and the management already has a lot to handle. So if they have another giant (Stansted Airport), which one are they going to focus on next year?" the analyst told Business Times.

The analyst also noted that MAHB's strategy, based on past investments in overseas airports, is to venture into developing markets rather than developed ones like the UK.

"The management has mentioned before that this is their strategy. They can add value to the airline and new airports when they invest in emerging markets, whereas in mature markets, there is nothing much they can do," he remarked.

MAHB currently manages four airports abroad, including Delhi International Airport and Hyderabad International Airport in India, Sabiha Gokcen International Airport in Turkey and Ibrahim Nasir International Airport in Maldives.

At home, it operates 39 airports, including its flagship KLIA.

"We are slightly negative on the acquisition as any attempts by Stansted to cut costs will likely give rise to airline operators pressing for lower landing charges. With Ryanair being its key client, this does not give Stansted much bargaining power to maintain or lift airport charges," OSK Research said in a report yesterday.

Still, it noted that MAHB's success in managing airports may boost its chances of winning the bid despite the valuation being on the high side.

The research house maintained its "buy" call and fair value of RM8 on MAHB as it is keen on the prospects of the group's klia2 project.

UK news reports over the weekend claimed MAHB had made an approach for Stansted, joining four earlier bidders namely Manchester Airport Group (MAG), which is backed by Australia's Industry Funds Management, and financial investors TPG, Macquarie and HRL Morrison.

The Sunday Telegraph's sources indicated that while MAG had emerged as the favoured bidder in the earlier round of bids, Stansted's owner wanted to secure a strong rival trade bidder to bolster the eventual price.

"This raises the possibility of MAHB ending up having to pay a higher price for the airport to secure its bid," OSK noted.

Stansted Airport is being forced-sold by owner Heathrow Ltd - previously known as BAA - after it lost a three-year battle with UK competition regulators that forbid ownership of two airports. Heathrow Ltd also owns Heathrow Airport.

Should MAHB win the bid, the group may have to raise its debt as its current cash pile is not sufficient to finance the UK STG1 billion acquisition.

"However, given its current net gearing of 54 per cent, there is some room for additional leverage should its funding needs grow. Other possible sources of funding that the group can tap on are its dividend reinvestment scheme, which could raise some RM190 million to RM200 million, assuming a 90 per cent take up," OSK said.

Stansted is thought to be inefficiently operated, OSK said, noting that due to its high airport charges, passenger traffic growth had declined from a peak of 23.8 million passengers in 2007 to an estimate of 17.1 million passengers this year.

"It is understood that the expenses incurred by the Stansted airport have been somewhat artificially inflated by the inclusion of expenses from other BAA-owned airports - Heathrow, Southampton, Glasgow and Aberdeen - in an attempt to justify higher landing charges," OSK said.

Stansted's earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortisation is expected to hit STG87.3 million (RM428 million) and go up to STG201 million (RM985 million) in the next few years.

同時,該公司與印度邦加羅爾GMR集團聯營的馬爾代夫機場,因該國新政府拒絕承認上一屆政府頒給的計劃而宣佈告吹後,該公司正考慮採取法律行動。該公司在該聯營公司擁有23%股權。

大馬機場董事經理丹斯里峇西爾日前接受《彭博社》的訪問時指出,中國和印尼為“成長地區",機場設施需進一步提昇。

不過,他不願意進一步談論有關投標計劃。

目前,大馬機場已在印度及土耳其機場推動業務拓展計劃。

擬在KLIA附近興建批發廣場

此外,該公司也討論在國內機場附近興建主題公園及高球俱樂部,以期達到盈利在截至2014年的5年內增加70%的目標。

(吉隆坡30日訊)可靠消息指出,與其在不熟悉地帶單獨行事競投英國斯坦斯特德機場經營權,大馬機場(AIRPORT,5014,主板貿服組)更傾向於選擇熟悉營運生態的伙伴聯合競投有關機場,最大考量除了增添競標幾率、分攤財政負擔乃至減低往後的營運風險與阻力等。

大馬機場消息人士接受《星洲財經》詢問指出,目前大馬機場積極在磋商競投的細節,基於客觀因素的考量,大馬機場最終會選擇策略伙伴競標有關機場。

《英國星期日電訊報》較早報導,大馬機場成為競標估值達10億英鎊(約49億令吉)的斯坦斯特德機場的最新競標者,將與包括曼徹斯特機場集團在內其他的有力競爭者一決高下。

英國機場管理局在與英國競爭委員會長達3年訴訟中吃下敗仗,被迫脫售希思羅機場或斯坦斯特德機場。

消息人士不願披露目前大馬機場會與哪一方形成聯合競投伙伴,包括董事經理丹斯里峇西爾的機場要員目前正往外國積極磋商中。

較早在股東特大上,大馬機場主席丹斯里旺阿都阿茲受股東詢及英國斯特德機場競投進展時,不願意披露競投英國斯坦斯特機場詳情,一旦有任何進展將向大馬交易所發佈詳情。

他說,董事經理丹斯里峇希爾與另一名董事正忙於海外事務,因而不克出席股東特大。

(吉隆坡3日讯)大马与马尔代夫外交部长会面,共同为大马机场(Airport,5014,主板贸服股)参与的马累(Male)国际机场特许经营权争议寻求解决之道。

大马机场发布文告指出,大马外交部长拿督斯里阿尼法上周五(11月30日)飞至马尔代夫、与该国外交部长阿布萨末会面,商讨如何解决GMR-大马机场财团,以及马尔代夫机场公司间机场项目特许经营协议被中止事宜。

GMR-大马机场财团从2010年11月起经营马累(Male)国际机场。根据为期25年的特许经营协议,印度的GMR集团持有77%股权,大马机场则持有23%。

大马机场表示,GMR-大马机场财团在该国际机场投资了不少资金,并且持续再投资修复、扩充和现代化工程。截至今日,GMR-大马机场财团未曾从此投资获得任何股息回酬。

“所以,相关单位有必要对此商讨,我们乐观以待,会得出让人满意的成果。”

大马机场认为,两国政府代表最新一次会面、进一步显示相关单位决心从争议中寻求和睦解决方案,以使大家日后继续共事。

“GMR集团和大马机场在此争议中也已投入无数努力、寻求解决方案。”

公司指出,印度政府对此事件也表态关注。

大马机场迄今在上述项目共投资了690万美元(约2150万令吉),联营公司的投资也累计了1320万美元(约4120万令吉)盈利。

機場控股 10月客運量年增7.7%

(吉隆坡4日訊)大馬機場控股(AIRPORT,5014,主要板貿易)旗下營運機場的10月客運量比去年同期增長7.7%,國際客運量及國內客運量分別增加8%及7.5%。

該公司指出,吉隆坡國際機場國際客運量增長8.8%,主要歸功于10月加入運作的3家航空公司。

飛機流量相比去年同期增長2.8%,其中國際航線增長7.3%;國內航線則微增0.3%。

另外,貨機運輸量按年下跌3.3%,其中國際運輸量下跌1.3%。

大馬機場控股指出,10月客運量正如所預期的一樣樂觀,預計11月及12月客運量將持續增加。[ChinaPress]

(吉隆坡8日讯)随着新加坡法庭裁决马尔代夫政府胜诉,印度GMR集团和大马机场(Airport,5014,主板贸服股)确定在11月7日晚上,交出马尔代夫的马累(Male)国际机场经营权。

彭博社报道引述马尔代夫机场公司董事经理莫哈末依布拉欣,称机场正式于11月7日晚上换手,而GMR集团的员工有至少一个月适应期。

另一方面,他们将继续与GMR集团在新加坡法庭上为赔偿金对峙。

GMR集团总财务长斯达拉嘉普曾表示,马尔代夫机场有责任赔偿GMR集团和贷款人,数额高达7亿美元(约21亿3885万令吉)。

股价走低
大马机场与GMR集团联手组成财团,从2010年11月起经营马累国际机场。根据为期25年的特许经营协议,GMR持有77%股权,大马机场则持有23%。他们目前亦共同经营伊斯坦堡的撒比哈机场。

GMR集团股价在孟买交易所下滑3%,报19.20卢比;年初迄今滑落9%。

大马机场则从新加坡法庭宣判前的5.32令吉,下滑8仙或1.51%,至周五闭市5.24令吉。

马尔代夫政府11月27日终止GMR-大马机场财团的特许经营合约,过后双方闹上新加坡法庭。以新加坡最高法院首席法官顺达烈斯为首的三司裁决,马尔代夫政府可接掌机场,但或需要因取消协议赔偿财团。

僑豐研究將其2014年財政年的營業額及營運盈利,將比2012年財政年分別增長38%及46%。這使該行對它保持“買進”評級,在折扣現金流下合理價為8令吉。(星洲網)

大马机场(Airport,5014,主板贸服股)最大的催化剂,就是明年将投入运作的新廉航终站(klia2)。

同时,新廉价航空公司的出现及之后可能引发的竞争,有助推高搭客量,并将让公司收渔翁之利。

为配合5年内提高盈利70%的目标,大马机场已展开一项大计,另也考虑竞标中国和印尼机场设备,拓展区域业务。

耗资40亿令吉、每年可应付4500万搭客人次的新廉航终站预计明年5月投入运作,将是大马机场的营收推动力。

大马机场曾披露,一旦机场运作,将有12家廉航入驻,除了亚洲航空(AirAsia,5099,主板贸服股),还包括狮子航空(Lion Air)及虎航(Tiger Airways)等。

此外,新廉价航空公司Malindo Airways即将冒现,相信可激起国内廉价航空的激烈削价战。

削价战不仅让游客受惠,搭客量不断提高,也能让大马机场成为赢家。

对于机场营运业者的大马机场来说,越多航空公司的出现,对公司业务更有利。

业绩表现方面,该公司营业额取得稳定的增长,从2007年的13亿8000万令吉增至2011年的27亿5000万令吉。

净利也从2007年的2亿8900万令吉,上涨到2011年的4亿100万令吉。

今年首9个月,大马机场营业额和净利分别达22亿1973万6000令吉和3亿1643万3000令吉。

股息再投资
大马机场今年的关键绩效指标(KPI)是,扣除利息、税务、折旧与摊销前盈利(EBITDA)9亿986万2000令吉和11.61%股本回酬。

关键绩效指标包括兴建新廉航终站、和槟城国际机场扩充建筑盈利。

依据首9个月的业绩,大马机场的EBITDA为6亿4729万2000令吉(已达目标的71%),而股本回酬则为8.02%。

股息派发记录上,自2007年起皆维持在净利的至少50%,去年总股息每股为22.47仙。

公司在近期的特别股东大会上建议推行股息再投资计划,也获得股东放行和落实。

依据周五闭市价格RM5.20以及2011年数据计算,该股本益比为14.3倍,周息率4.3%。

截至9月30日,大马机场每股净资产为RM3.59,目前的交易价格相等于1.45倍(价格比账面价值)。

亚洲旅游需求增 拟竞标中国印尼机场设备
展望未来,据达证券行的了解,年终假期以及佳节推动,第四季度航空旅游需求会加速。

同时,随着新航空如BB Airways和Zest Air已在今年10月开始着陆吉隆坡国际机场,有望推高大马机场乘客量。

至于明年前景,尽管欧洲仍受债务危机影响,但全球经济逐渐复苏以及油价走缓下,预计航空领域2013年将持续改善,特别是新兴市场如亚洲的需求料维持强稳。

此外,大马机场也放话,随着亚洲旅游需求提高而考虑竞标中国和印尼的机场设备,因两国增长潜力大。

为配合5年的业务方向计划以提高盈利70%,公司也计划在国内机场附近兴建游乐园和高尔夫球场。

然而,大马机场与GMR集团经营的马累国际机场项目特许经营权已被马尔代夫政府收回。

达证券行预计,这将造成大马机场2013年和2014年蒙受将近2200万令吉和2500万令吉的联营盈利贡献损失。

根据分析,最糟糕的情况之下,失去的联营盈利贡献将占大马机场未来2年净利的6.1%和3.3%。

协议中止料获赔偿
不过,达证券行指出,依据协议,相信大马机场很可能就协议中止一事获得赔偿,并可利用批资金用作为其它更好的投资。

尽管如此,大马机场就上述特性经营协议被中止厘清公司的法律立场,并根据有关法律保留所有的权利和采取补救措施。

1.机场营运业务:如在机场经营免税和非免税商店,以及为餐饮店提供相关服务;管理和经营机场以及提供相关服务。
2.非机场营运业务:培育与销售油棕和其他农业产品、管理和经营酒店以及为机场相关行业提供机械与土木工程服务。

大马机场 2014年营业额料激增

(吉隆坡27日讯)鉴于第二吉隆坡国际机场(KLIA2)将在明年5月1日如期投入营运,券商预计大马机场(Airport,5014,贸易服务组)2014财政年的营业额及息税前盈利或出现剧增情况。


侨丰证券研究在今日发表的报告中说:“大马机场2014财政年的营业额料将较该公司今年预计录得的21亿5千100万令吉高出38%。”

该行表示,大马机场营业额的绝大部分将受第二吉隆坡国际机场较高的租金收入所推动,因其零售出租空间比现有廉价航空终站(LCCT)多出逾4倍。

报告中说:“尽管该公司的营运成本预计将攀升32%,我们料其息税前盈利的增幅也将扩大,即从今年的8亿4千万令吉攀升46%至12亿3千万令吉。”

该行也指出,大马机场2万2千516英亩庞大地库的发展潜力大。
然而,该行不看好大马机场参与竞标收购伦敦斯坦斯特德机场,因认为那是一个历史悠久的机场,且瑞安航空(Ryanair)为其大客户(占乘客流量的约三分之二)。

不过,侨丰证券研究认为这项潜在的收购活动并不会影响大马机场的估值。据传言指出,斯坦斯特德机场的任何竞标计划将通过财团联合竞标方式进行。

该行维持大马机场的买入评级,以及8令吉的目标价格。
截至上午11点43分,大马机场股价起1仙至5.18令吉。闭市时,大马机场报5.17令吉,无起落,成交量达61万5千300股。

(吉隆坡31日訊)隨著第2吉隆坡國際機場(KLIA 2)明年5月起投運,大馬機場控股(AIRPORT,5014,主要板貿易)明年利息、稅務、折舊與攤銷前盈利(簡稱EBITDA)目標,為7億5100萬令吉。

該公司今日發佈文告指出,國內航空公司擴張,有望恢復去年停飛的航線,整體乘客流量料可獲得改善,繼而可持續惠及大馬機場控股。

“若不把建設淨利納入計算,我們預期2013年的EBITDA關鍵績效指標(KPI)為7億5100萬令吉。以我國明年經濟成長可維持在5%至6%前提下,預期乘客流量可錄得7.1%增長。”

大馬機場控股披露,第2吉隆坡國際機場明年5月1日起開始營運,有助強化商業及零售業務,可推高公司營業額。

(吉隆坡31日讯)大马机场(AIRPORT,5014,主板贸服股)公佈2013財政年度(截至12月31日止)的关键表现指標(KPI),计划在本財政年达到7亿5100万令吉的未计算利息、税项、折旧及摊销之盈利。並冀望吉隆坡国际机场(KLIA)成为有2500万至4000万乘客的机场中的前5名。        

由於大马机场目前仍与政府商討第二吉隆坡国际机场(KLIA2)落成后的折旧与摊销成本问题,因此决定暂时不把股本回酬率(ROE)列入2013財政年的关键表现指標。

第二吉隆坡国际机场料將在明年5月1日投入运作,並对大马机场的集团营业额带来正面的贡献。然而,该机场也预计將提高大马机场的营运成本。

大马机场预测2013年的乘客流量將持续成长,特別是2012年末季的乘客流量,已从航线和运力削减中恢復过来。大马机场估计,在新航空公司的加入和本土航空公司的扩张下,明年的乘客流量將取得7.1%的成长。

MAHB eyes RM751m profit

PETALING JAYA: Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd (MAHB) targets earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortisation without construction profit of RM751mil supported by growth in passenger traffic for 2013.

The airport operator said it expected 2013 to be a better year in terms of overall passenger traffic performance.

It added many of the airlines’ routes and capacity cuts that were affected over the last year have been reinstated or are now being reinstated.

MAHB said it would continue to benefit from the strong traffic growth with the entry of new airlines and the expansion of local carriers in 2013.

“Therefore, the group expects to achieve a passenger growth of 7.1% for 2013 on the assumption that the Malaysian gross domestic growth remains in the range of 5% to 6% and the global economic environment and jet oil prices remain stable,” it said in a statement to Bursa Malaysia.

MAHB said it expected KLIA2 to be operational on May 1, 2013.

(吉隆坡1日讯)预期客流量增长7.1%的支撑下,大马机场(Airport,5014,主板贸服股)2013年扣除利息、税务、折旧(不计算建筑)与摊销前盈利(EBITA)放眼可录得7亿5100万令吉。
大马机场昨日在向马交所报备的“2013年关键绩效指标”中表示,整体客流量方面,预期2013年的表现将会更好。
公司表示,除了许多航空公司在去年减低航线和产能的影响已经获得恢复或正在复原,也将在2013年受益于新航空进驻及本地航空扩展。

“所以,集团预期2013年的客流量可达到7.1%的增长,前提是我国国内生产总值维持在5%至6%的增长,以及全球经济环境与飞机油价维持稳定。”
大马机场也预期新廉航终站(klia2)将在2013年5月1日启用。

同日的另一文告中,大马机场也宣布旗下独资子公司———KL Airport Hotel私人有限跟Atoz Hospitality Services私人有限公司设立联营公司,以营运和管理一个新机场酒店品牌———Sama-Sama Hospitality集团。

根据文告,新联营公司缴足资本为10万令吉,KL Airport Hotel和Atoz Hospitality Services分别持股51%与49%。初期的营运资本预期为50万令吉。

大馬機場控股 國際乘客增加13%

 (吉隆坡3日訊)大馬機場控股(AIRPORT,5014,主要板貿易)營運的機場,客流量激增,國際乘客增加13%,客機流動量高達5萬4354架次。

 該集團在馬證交所發表文告指出,該集團營運的機場,截至去年11月客流量按年增長9.9%,國際乘客增加13.1%,本地乘客則增加7.1%。馬航、亞洲航空及其他國外航空也在以雙位數增長。

 吉隆坡國際機場方面,馬航與亞航國外乘客流量是16%,本地乘客流量從4%提高到7%。
