Dutch Lady Milk Industries Berhad engages in the manufacture and distribution of sweetened condensed milk, milk powder, dairy products, and fruit juice drinks principally in Malaysia. It sells infant formula, growing-up milk, powdered milk, condensed milk, UHT milk, sterilized milk, pasteurized milk, cultured milk, yoghurt, and fruit juice drinks. The company offers its dairy products under the Dutch Lady, Frisolac, Friso, Completa, Omela, and Joy brand names. Dutch Lady Milk Industries Berhad was formerly known as Dutch Baby Milk Industries (Malaya) Berhad and changed its name to Dutch Lady Milk Industries Berhad in 2000. The company was incorporated in 1963 and is based in Petaling Jaya, Malaysia. Dutch Lady Milk Industries Berhad operates as a subsidiary of Frint Beheer IV BV.

source: http://www.clal.it/en/index.php?section=skim

为了再度提高销售额,Dutch Lady 推出了 “Spread the Goodness of Milk" campaign.... 希望吸引更多成年人喝牛奶... 现在大马的 milk consumption 只有 30 litres of milk per person in a year,很多人长大后就不喝牛奶,所以比西方国家还少70%... 管理层就是看中这点所以才推出这个campaign....

最近很多 F&B stock 都升的很高,想找便宜点而DY还不错的都有点难,Dutch Lady 的DY 应该有 min 4-5%... 希望今年会破 50mil 的 total Div payout...
不知各位大大对 Dutch Lady 有什莫意见?(要谢谢 BBJ 前辈令我注意子母牌)

PE around 12... Stil consider low compare to others like F&N, Nestle, Mamee, or cocoaland...

If total dividen pay out is 50mil, DY wil be around 5.26%... stil higher than others...

Dutch Lady M’sia records highest earnings

May 20, 2010, Thursday

KUCHING: Homegrown dairy corporation Dutch Lady Milk Industries Bhd (Dutch Lady Malaysia) is seeing outstanding financial performance for the first quarter ended March 31 2010.In its release yesterday, profit before  tax (PBT) grew to RM28.2 million from RM12.7 million in comparative quarter a year ago, while revenue was higher at RM173.11 million versus RM168.57 million previously – the highest in its 47-year corporate history.

It cited lower spending on marketing activities as the reason for the growth, alongside better sales mix and favourable dairy raw material prices. On an annual basis, the group achieved PBT of RM82.4 million last year, an increase of 42 per cent from the previous year’s level of RM57.8 million. Revenue, however, dipped slightly by 2.7 per cent to RM691.8 million from RM711.6 million earned in 2008. This was attributed to lower selling prices and softer consumer spending.

Commenting on the results, Dutch Lady Malaysia’s managing director Bas van den Berg explained that last year had proven to be the most challenging for companies.

“Across the globe, companies, industries and even governments grappled to stay afloat during one of the worst economic recessions in recent decades.”

“Despite these challenges, the group still managed to post encouraging results,” he said in a statement after concluding the group’s annual general meeting in Petaling Jaya yesterday.

However, Van den Berg revealed that the group would not raise the prices of its products until this August-September period.

”We’ll do the utmost not to raise the prices, but I can’t promise that there won’t be any increase that’s highly dependent on the development in the coming three to four months.“

So far, we’ve been able to maintain the prices as the group had locked in the prices of dairy raw materials until August-September.

“We’ve seen significant increases in raw materials in the past six months. Based on the current outlook, we still expect further price hikes this year,” he said.

Additionally, he pointed out that the price of skimmed milk powder, the main dairy raw material, was expected to be slightly above US$3,000 (US$1=RM3.21) per tonne this year from US$2,100 per tonne in the fourth quarter of last year.

Meanwhile, Van den Berg also highlighted the group’s activities that were slated for promoting its quality campaign, which included consumer surveys on their consumption habits towards dairy products.

“The ‘World Milk Day Celebrations’ to be held at the end of May drives and educates Malaysians on the nutritional benefits of drinking milk daily for a healthier lifestyle.

More than RM5 million is being apportioned for ground activities and educational messages for this celebration, with 250,000 packets of ultra-high temperature (UHT) milk to be distributed nationwide free for the enjoyment of Malaysians,” he continued.

On this, Van den Berg mentioned that the group had rolled out a  regional scientific nutritional survey, with the country being the first amongst Indonesia, Thailand and Vietnam.

It would also increase its budget for advertisement and promotion by 20 per cent this year to refocus on its core strengths.

Looking ahead, Van den Berg projected that the dairy market would show substantial growth throughout the remainder of the year.
“Consumer confidence is catching up and this will be reflected in consumer behaviour.

Nevertheless, we’ll definitely be looking closely at the raw material price development,” he said.

Dutch Lady Malaysia currently holds almost 20 per cent market share in the country’s milk and dairy products segment, with  a 50 per cent share in the UHT milk market.

Sabah-based firm may get to supply 1M'sia milk to schools nationwide

Published on: Sunday, August 22, 2010

Kota Kinabalu: The suspended National School Milk Programme will be revived soon with a 1Malaysia image to reflect the concept as espoused by the Prime Minister.

Its re-launch is expected to be in Sabah. It was also learnt that Sabah International Dairies Sdn Bhd (SiD), which has been in operation for three decades, stands a good chance of being awarded the contract to manufacture, supply and deliver milk nationwide.

"Chief Minister Datuk Seri Musa Hj Aman pushed for the revival of the school milk programme to help Sabah dairy farmers improve their socio-economic status.

"It was he (Musa) who raised the matter with the Prime Minister and Datuk Najib then suggested putting the 1Malaysia logo on the milk packet.

The revival would give a much-needed shot-in-the-arm for the State's dairy industry if SiD gets the deal," the industry players told Daily Express.

According to them, the 1Malaysia Milk Programme was mooted at a dinner reception in Sabah hosted on July 20 in honour of Najib who was visiting the State.

"The Deputy Prime Minister, Sabah Chief Minister and State Minister of Agriculture and Food Industry were present. During a casual discussion on fresh milk production by Sabah farmers, initiated by Musa, the DPM suggested giving milk to school children. Then the PM said, 'Why don't we use the 1Malaysia logo?'"

A local firm was engaged to design the milk packet, depicting the 1Malaysia logo and Musa was reportedly pleased with the design.

Musa again raised the subject with the PM when they met up in KL.

"The CM showed the PM the proposed 200ml milk packet samples with the 1Malaysia logo. The PM gave the 'green light' to go ahead," said the industry players.

It is understood that SiD and Dutch Lady Malaysia, another market leader in the Malaysian dairy industry, have been lobbying for the contract to supply milk drinks to schools nationwide.

Prior to the discontinuation of the National School Milk Programme in 2007, both SiD and Dutch Lady Malaysia were supplying and delivering milk under the programme which was implemented in 1985.

SiD was then the biggest producer of school milk in Malaysia by virtue of its participation in the Sabah School Milk Programme, National School Milk Programme and Yayasan Sarawak School Milk Programme.

On media reports in a peninsula-based paper that SiD had been given the contract, Chief Executive Officer of SiD, Brig. Gen. (R) Datuk A. Arulpragasam said: "We don't know. Wait until the launching of the 1Malaysia Milk Programme."

He, however, confirmed that Sabah's local fresh milk production is on the increase. "When we started the Sabah School Milk Programme, production was 300,000 litres per month and then went up to 500,000 litres.

Now it has reached 700,000 litres. By the end of the year, we hope to have a total volume of 8.5 million litres."

Deputy Education Minister Datuk Dr Wee Ka Siong told reporters in Petaling Jaya that the National School Milk Programme would be revived by next year.

Until May 2007, SiD was manufacturing, supplying and delivering 200ml Ultra Heat Treatment (UHT) packet milk for the National School Milk Programme involving more than 500,000 pupils in Sarawak, Labuan Federal Territory and the Northern and Southern States of Peninsular Malaysia.

That year, the Education Ministry stopped the programme following allegations of milk contamination after a spate of food poisoning among students in the Peninsula. However, following sample tests, it was found that the incident had nothing to do with SiD milk packets.

But before the outcome of the tests was made known by the Health Ministry, the Education Ministry was said to have ordered the destruction of the remaining stocks of packet milk.

This caused SiD to suffer losses running into millions of ringgit.

Likewise, SiD was supplying milk drinks to residential schools in Sarawak through Yayasan Sarawak but this operation has been put on hold since 2008 due to the suspension of the National School Milk Programme.

Currently, SiD is implementing the Sabah School Milk Programme 100pc.

It was implemented in 1980. Some 201,422 children and Primary One to Three pupils in 2,301 kindergartens and primary schools are enjoying the milk drinks three times a week for 104 drinking days.

By the end of the year, SiD will have produced more than 20 million milk packs for the programme.

SiD has a contract with the Community Development and Consumer Affairs Ministry to manufacture, supply and deliver 200ml UHT packet milk to all kindergartens and primary schools (registered with the Ministry of Education).

There are two flavours: 200ml UHT Full Cream Milk and 200ml UHT Chocolate Flavoured Milk.

The company purchases all fresh milk produced by Sabah's dairy farmers, through the Department of Veterinary Services and Animal Industry (DOVSAI), and packs it for the programme.

The Sabah Dairy Project is undertaken by Dovsai, involving 127 commercial dairy farmers and 14 Milk Collection Centres (MCC) throughout the State. The milk is sent to SiD's milk processing plant by insulated tankers.

DPM: Students not forced to wear headscarf

LAHAD DATU: An incident in which teachers at a Labuan secondary school forced a female Muslim student to wear the tudung should not have happened at all, Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin said yesterday.

He said there was no Education Ministry policy forcing female Muslim students to wear the headscarf.

“If families feel their children need not wear the tudung, that’s up to them. This is an individual choice,” said Muhyiddin, who was on a day visit to this east coast district in Sabah yesterday.

He added that force should not be applied in matters involving religion.

“More so during the fasting month when we should avoid all things negative such as anger,” said Muhyiddin, who is also Education Minister.

He said he could not understand the school’s rationale for imposing the tudung requirement during the fasting month.

“Covering the body appropriately is not just a matter for the fasting month,” said Muhyiddin, who advised school principals to adopt a reasonable attitude on the matter.

He said this when asked about reports that teachers at SM St Anne in Labuan had resorted to harassing students who did not comply with the tudung ruling.

Sunita Klinck, the student’s mother, voiced her outrage against school officials for what she claimed to be harassment of her daughter for not wearing the tudung to school during the fasting month.

Later, Muhyiddin announced the revival of the milk scheme for schoolchildren.

He said the scheme, which would resume before the end of the year, has been renamed 1Malaysia school milk programme.

He said the bulk of the milk would be sourced from Sabah, which was the largest milk producer in the country, and it would be supplied by Dutch Milk Industries.

“We are currently discussing the pricing and contract with Sabah,” said Muhyiddin.

He said discussions with the state government would focus on how the milk supplied to the pupils could be stored and distributed in the most efficient way.

Muhyiddin said his ministry’s main concern was to avoid the recurrence of pupils suffering from food poisoning after consuming milk that had gone bad.

The milk programme was suspended three years ago after a spate of food poisoning cases.

School milk project still has ministry and producers locked in close talks
Thursday, November 4th, 2010 10:22:00

KUALA LUMPUR: Several dairy producers, including Dutch Lady Milk Industries Berhad, have been holding talks with the Education Ministry over the 1Malaysia milk programme, scheduled to begin at year-end.

This was confirmed by its managing director Bas van den Berg (pic), who said discussions had taken place at various stages between ministry officials and milk producers.

Declining to go into details of the discussions, van den Berg said: "It is difficult to say what stage of talks we are at now. A lot has been discussed. Yet it's too early to say anything for sure."

Applauding the government's effort in bringing back the school milk programme, he said: "We are excited to start this programme again as we share the same government mission which is to raise healthy Malaysians as we move into the future."

But, van den Berg expressed concerns about the country's milk production capacity. Stating quality milk production capacity "is not available in the country,"

He said, "We need to take a couple of steps, including production capacity and right way of distribution to ensure the milk's quality."

Adding the firm was open to be a part of the school programme, he said: "The right way of distribution and storage should be properly implemented, too."

van den Berg said this to The Malay Mail at the launch of Dutch Lady Kid and Dutch Lady School Milk at Hilton Hotel in KL Sentral yesterday.

Dutch Lady Kid is designed for children between the ages of one and six while Dutch Lady School Milk is catered for school-going children aged between six and 12 years-old.
It was reported that prior to the discontinuation of the National School Milk Programme in 2007, Dutch Lady Milk Industries Berhad has been a part of the programme together with Sabah International Dairies Sdn Bhd since 1985.

Deputy Education Minister Datuk Dr Wee Ka Siong confirmed the ministry had approached milk producers to ensure there would be a sufficient supply of milk.

"That's not all. We have also discussed with the producers to monitor the ministry's procedures and guidelines are that must be strictly followed."

The talks, Wee said, was to ensure everything ran smoothly.

The Malay Mail understands the ministry are currently racing against the deadline of the programme, which is scheduled to kick off during the last week of school.

On Oct 4, Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, who is also the Education Minister, said the programme, which would cost RM375 million a year, would involve 200ml packets of milk to be provided twice a week to pupils. In total, this would amount to 270 million packets a year.

On Sept 16, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak announced the 1Malaysia milk programme designed to benefit Standards 1 to 6 students. It is a part of government effort to build healthier and stronger Malaysians.

The national school milk programme is a component of the Education Ministry's supplementary food programme initiated in 1983. It was temporarily suspended on May 22, 2007, to allow investigations into milk contamination after a spate of food poisoning among students but re-launched on July 16 that year only to be suspended again the following August.

It was reported the Health Ministry conducted a study on the milk supply chain between Feb 11 and April 16, 2008, but was not satisfied with the safety control system in the supply chain.

impairment cost 因该是加在 other operating expenses,所以这一季的 Other Operating Expense 从10mil 增加到 20mil....
